Adding to Freedman's sophisticated harmonic perspective, vibraphonist Nick Apivor adds a luminous counterpoint that expands the group’s tonal spectrum and sensitivities to tension. On piano with the group is the virtuoso pianist John Stetch (johnstetch.com), whose command of & creativity in & beyond things jazz & classical enhances Freedman's already complex, but eminently tuneful compositions. Bassist Dan Howard and drummer Paul Mason combine into a texturally-aware rhythm section that shifts between subtlety and muscular momentum. Together, the group expresses a strong identity, as it moves fluidly between themes and improvisation through Freedman's non-canonical sense of jazz harmony.
