2026 E.W. Guptill Memorial Lecture

With guest speaker, Dr. Shohini Ghose from Wilfrid Laurier University. Dalhousie's Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science is pleased to present Quantum 2.0: Science, Promise and Reality by Dr. Shohini Ghose (Wilfrid Laurier University) as the 2026 E.W. Guptill Lecture at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Quantum science has already shaped many of the technologies we rely on today. from lasers and electronics to atomic clocks. We are now entering a new era in which quantum phenomena can power computing, sensing and communication. What gives these technologies their potential? How much of what we hear about quantum technology is realistic, and how much is hype? This talk explores the science, opportunities and challenges of the emerging quantum era. The E.W. Guptill Memorial Lecture is an annual public lecture hosted by Dalhousie University's Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science. The lecture honours the legacy of Dr. Ernest W. Guptill, a professor and former head of the department.
