Victorian Séance: History, Hoaxes & Spirit Communication

Uncover the history and hoaxes of Victorian séances before experiencing a spirit communication session guided by PPRI. Step back into the mysterious world of Victorian Spiritualism during this unique and immersive evening with Psychic Medium Jodi Russell, presented as part of the 2026 Halifax Paranormal Symposium by Paranormal Phenomena Research & Investigation. Discover how the Spiritualist movement captivated the Victorian era and gave rise to the séance as a cultural phenomenon. Throughout the evening, Jodi will explore the fascinating history of Victorian séances, revealing the methods, illusions, and psychological techniques that fraudulent mediums once used to convince audiences they were communicating with the dead. From table-tipping and trance speaking to mysterious knocks and seemingly supernatural manifestations, you'll learn how many of history's most famous séances were accomplished. Once the history has been uncovered and the hoaxes exposed, the evening takes a different turn. Jodi will then guide attendees through a modern spirit communication session conducted without theatrical tricks or deceptive techniques. Drawing on her experience as a psychic medium, she will facilitate a respectful séance in an attempt to establish communication with spirit, allowing participants to experience this historic practice from a contemporary perspective. Attendees can expect: • An engaging look at the history of Victorian Spiritualism and the rise of the séance • Demonstrations and explanations of the classic tricks and illusions used by fraudulent mediums • Insight into the differences between historical séance practices and modern spirit communication • A guided modern-day séance led by Psychic Medium Jodi Russell • A respectful, professionally hosted environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and personal reflection Whether you are a skeptic, believer, history enthusiast, or simply curious about one of the most intriguing chapters in paranormal history, this interactive presentation offers a fascinating blend of history, education, mystery, and hands-on experience.
