Full description from organizer

Community workshop to raise cancer awareness, promote screening and prevention, & connect diverse communities with trusted health resources Cancer Awareness and Screening Workshop Prevention, Screening, Symptoms and Treatment Organized by Alliance for CancerCare Equity (ACCE) and African Women's Alliance of Waterloo Region About Alliance for CancerCare Equity (ACCE) The Alliance for CancerCare Equity (ACCE) is a Canadian registered charitable organization dedicated to improving access to equitable cancer care, particularly for underserved populations, including immigrants, and other racialized and underserved communities. We support patients through education, advocacy, and direct financial assistance. We work to ensure that where a patient lives or what a patient earns should not determine their ability to survive a cancer diagnosis. Thus, we work to bridge the gap in cancer prevention, screening, education, treatment and survivorship through community engagement, advocacy and financial assistance. Event Overview The Alliance for CancerCare Equity (ACCE) and African Women's Alliance of Waterloo Region, in partnership with the Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program and Highland Stirling Neighborhood Association, warmly invites you to a special community event dedicated to cancer screening, prevention, and early detection. Goal: This community workshop aims to increase cancer awareness, improve understanding of cancer screening and prevention, and provide accessible health education for diverse and minority communities. Through collaboration between healthcare professionals, community organizations, and cancer screening experts, participants will gain valuable knowledge, connect with local resources, and have opportunities to ask questions in a welcoming environment. Target Audience: • Members of African Women's Alliance of Waterloo Region • New immigrants and newcomers • Racialized and underserved communities Why Attend? Cancer is not an equal opportunity disease. Systemic barriers, cultural stigma, and lack of access to the right information continue to negatively impact outcomes for minority communities in Canada. Many are diagnosed late or unaware of the services available to them. Thus, cancer outcomes remain significantly worse for racialized and immigrant populations in Canada, often due to misinformation, cultural stigma, and lack of access to prevention and screening resources. However, we know that · Early detection saves lives. · Access to right information changes outcomes. · Together, we can build a future where everyone has an equal chance at cancer prevention, treatment, and survival. Key Messages: • Importance of screening and early detection. Screening guidelines and access • Access to screening services • Available resources • Navigating the Canadian healthcare system • Addressing cultural myths, misinformation and barriers to equitable healthcare • Reducing systemic barriers to care What to Expect • Expert-led education sessions on cancer awareness and prevention • Culturally relevant discussions on reducing barriers to care • Practical guidance for early screening and self-advocacy • Connection with healthcare providers and community support organizations • An inclusive, supportive space for learning, sharing, and taking action Event Format: • In-person community cancer education event • Mix of presentations, Q&A sessions, and resource materials Venue: Mill Courtland Community Centre, 216 Mill Street, Kitchener, ON N2M 3R2 Save The Date: Saturday October 31, 2026 Time: 11:00AM – 1:00PM We look forward to welcoming you.
