Hey caregivers! Ready to learn some cool de-escalation techniques to handle tough moments more smoothly? This in-person event is all about practical tips and tricks to keep things calm and positive when stress hits. Whether you’re caring for loved ones or others, you’ll pick up handy skills to make your day easier. Come hang out, learn, and share experiences—let’s make caregiving a little less stressful together! De-escalation for caregivers centers on managing your own stress response, using targeted communication, and modifying the environment to return an agitated individual to a calm state. When a person becomes highly agitated, their logical brain shuts down, meaning instructions, logic, and arguing will not work. Whether you are caring for a loved one with dementia, developmental conditions, or mental health challenges, the following core strategies are typically emphasized in professional caregiver workshops. Our special guest speaker, Melanie Howard, public educator with CMHA will help you • Manage Your Own Response First and show you how to regulate your breathing, check your body language, and control your voice in stressful situations. • Provide Verbal De-Escalation Tactics like validate feelings, not behavior, keep language simple, and ignore the challenge, focus on the need. • Environmental Adjustments like respect personal space, decrease sensory input.
