Now, Toronto gets a chance to experience it together. COMING HOME is a special community screening of Walter Thompson-Hernández’s If I Go Will They Miss Me — a powerful piece of Black cinema exploring fatherhood, incarceration, family, imagination and what it really means to return home. Following the screening, we’ll move beyond the film and into a dedicated moderated conversation rooted in the Toronto community. Together, we’ll explore the realities behind the story through a dedicated conversation centred on Black fatherhood, restorative justice, forgiveness, healing, and repair. At the heart of the evening is one central question: What does it really mean to come home? Not simply returning to a place, but returning to relationships, children and communities that have continued to change in your absence, and confronting the accountability, vulnerability and repair that reconnection can require. THE FILM Twelve-year-old Lil Ant transforms his working-class Los Angeles neighbourhood into a world of mythology as he tries to reconnect with his father following his return from incarceration.
