GORDIY STARUKH is in Toronto for one night only - Ukrainian lirnyk, luthier and one-man band making a sound nobody else really does. Hurdy-gurdy, voice, synths and percussion. Old Ukrainian songs with enough electronics and rhythm to make the word "folk" slightly misleading. KRYVA KOSA opens the night with village songs, crooked rhythms and enough folk to get us properly warmed up. It also happens to be the last night of the Toronto Ukrainian Festival. So yes, this is the unofficial afterparty. Three days of Ukrainian everything and then down into the basement for a hurdy-gurdy and electronic set. Obviously. This is part of INSTITUT's UKRAINIAN HERITAGE MONTH volume - music, film, art and story, all Ukrainian for this showcase month. Underground at 620 Spadina Ave - around the back, through the lot to the steel doors, down the stairs, past the mechanical room, through the swinging wood laminate door... One night in Toronto. Don't overthink it.
