Kashikari-Inspired Tile Glazing Workshop | Misbah Ahmed & Tigerbaby Coffee & Clay

Join sukoon space, ceramic artist Misbah Ahmed and Tigerbaby Coffee and Clay for an afternoon of tile glazing inspired by Kashikari. Taking the colours and patterns of Kashikari tilework as a starting point, you’ll explore your own design on a handmade ceramic tile. Misbah will guide you through the glazing process, working on an approximately 7 × 7-inch tile that has been prepared and fired ahead of the workshop. Spend an afternoon making, experimenting with pattern and connecting with others, while creating a piece of your own. All glazing materials, guided instruction and final kiln firing are included.About Kashikari Kashikari is the art of glazed ceramic tilework, with roots in Persian ceramic traditions and a distinctive heritage in Multan, Pakistan. Multani tilework is known for its cobalt blues, turquoise and white, combining intricate floral motifs and geometric patterns to decorate shrines and historic buildings. In this workshop, we’ll take inspiration from that tradition as you glaze your own handmade, pre-fired ceramic tile. Misbah will guide you through exploring colour and pattern, with room to interpret the designs in your own way. Artist Bio Misbah Ahmed is a Toronto-based artist and educator working across ceramics, painting and printmaking. She graduated from OCAD University’s Illustration program in 2018, receiving its program medal, and has taught there since 2020. She also teaches ceramics at the Gardiner Museum and founded Sehn Studio in 2024, a Toronto space for art-making, classes and guest workshops.
