Cabinet of Curious Insects: A Recycled Sculpture Workshop (In Cantonese)

Using recycled cardboard, paper packaging, wooden cutlery, yarn, paper tape, and other sustainable materials, participants will build their own unique insect sculptures and display cases through cutting, layering, taping, gluing, and assembling. Add some water-based paint, or leave your creation unpainted to celebrate the textures of the recycled materials! What to Expect: • Create your own whimsical insect sculpture and display case • Explore local insect life through imaginative art-making • Build, cut, layer, tape, glue, and assemble using simple construction techniques • Choose from a wide variety of pre-prepared recycled and discarded materials • Use water-based paints to bring your fantastical creatures to life • Take your unique insect creation home with you! No previous art experience is needed. Come ready to get curious, get creative, and give discarded materials a new life! English / Cantonese Sessions Please note: There are two sessions of this workshop. The morning session will be facilitated in English, while the afternoon session will be facilitated in Cantonese. Details • Date: Sunday, September 20th • Time: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM • Location: Slocan Community Hall | 2750 East 29th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5R 6C2 • Age: All ages welcome. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Getting There • Slocan Community Hall is located in Slocan Park, just a short walk from 29th Avenue SkyTrain Station. • The hall is also easily accessible by bus via the routes serving the 29th Avenue area. • Limited street parking is available in the surrounding neighbourhood. • We recommend walking, taking transit, riding your bike, or carpooling when possible. Accessibility • The hall is located within Slocan Park and is accessed via a pathway through the park. • Wheelchair access is generally possible, though portions of the pathway may be more difficult to navigate after heavy rain. • Please contact the organizers in advance if you have specific accessibility needs so we can help ensure the best possible access.
