About this event

A guided workshop weaves sensory exploration, arts-based practices, and gentle reflection in the forest.

Full description from organizer

A guided workshop weaving sensory exploration, arts-based practices, and gentle reflection in the forest. What to expect: In this workshop, participants will be invited to slow down and connect with the natural world through sensory-based mindfulness practices. We will begin with opening activities and then take a gentle, slow-paced walk along a forest path, pausing along the way to notice our surroundings and engage our senses. We will then take time to sit quietly at a comfortable spot in the forest, and reflect upon both our internal and external experiences. These practices are intended to create space for slowing down, cultivating a sense of calm, and noticing our connection with ourselves, one another, and the more-than-human world. We will culminate our reflective mindfulness practices by inviting you to creatively express something from your experience while drinking tea. A variety of arts-based materials and practices will be available, including drawing, writing, movement, fibre arts, and working with natural materials. No previous artistic experience is needed—the emphasis is on exploration and expression rather than creating a finished or polished artwork. Please note that much of our time together will be spent in silence. In the midst of our busy modern lives, this workshop offers an opportunity to pause, tend to our inner landscapes, and spend intentional time in relationship with the natural world. Who is this workshop for? This workshop is for anyone aged 19+ interested in slowing down, spending intentional time in nature, and exploring mindfulness and creative expression in community. You do not need any previous experience with mindfulness, meditation, or art. Whether you are feeling curious, seeking a moment of calm, or simply wanting to reconnect with yourself and the natural world, you are welcome. A note on weather and safety: This workshop will run rain or shine. A large covered area will be available nearby in case of rain. If severe weather is forecasted that may affect the safety of the group, facilitators will contact registered participants in advance with information about postponement and a full refund. Please dress appropriately for the weather and forest conditions. We recommend warm layers, rain gear, a hat or toque, and comfortable, sturdy walking shoes. Please bring anything else you may need to stay comfortable outdoors, such as water, sunscreen, or a snack. As with any outdoor activity, there are inherent and unpredictable risks associated with spending time in a forest including uneven or slippery terrain, roots, insects, and changing weather conditions. Participants will be asked to review and sign a consent and waiver form upon registration. Additional details: • Exact meeting location: A map pin and meeting details will be sent upon registration. • Art materials: All arts materials will be provided, including drawing, writing, natural materials, and textile-based materials. • Artistic experience: No previous creative or artistic experience is necessary. • Pace: This will be a gentle, slow-paced walk with opportunities to pause and sit. • What to bring: Water, weather-appropriate clothing, and anything you may need to feel comfortable outdoors.
