About this event

Michael Schauch reads from and discusses his new book Anattā: Heart of Wisdom.

Full description from organizer

Join author, alpinist, and Buddhist practitioner Michael Schauch for a reading and conversation about his new book, Anattā: Heart of Wisdom. Blending contemplative essays and poetry from his journeys in the mountains, author Michael Schauch's new book Anattā: Heart of Wisdom (Hohm Press) explores the Buddhist teaching of anattā, "non-self," and what it can offer in uncertain times: a way of loosening our grip on who we think we are and finding stable ground in times of change. Michael will share stories and passages from the book, followed by a conversation with the audience and a book signing. Come to listen, reflect, and ask your questions. “Schauch writes about liberation—not through escape but through intimacy with life as it is.” —Sharon Salzberg, author of Lovingkindness “Anatta is a beautiful presentation of what the Buddhists call shunyata— an ultimate Nonduality.” —Ken Wilber, author of Finding Radical Wholeness About the Author: Michael Schauch is an alpinist and award-winning author who lives to explore the depths of nature and the human spirit and share the beauty of connection he discovers along the way. For fifteen years, Michael has been a mentor and supporter of Buddhist Tibetan youth in Kathmandu, Nepal and many young members of his community in Canada. He holds an MBA from Queens University and is a member of the Explorers Club. Originally from Victoria (born and raised), he and his wife Chantal make their base camp in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh peoples (Squamish, BC), nestled in the rugged Coast Mountains.
