A one-person show drawing from Jeff Gobeil’s real experience as a Crown witness in a historic child sexual abuse case. It's a free show and all are welcome to attend this performance. The Crown Witness is a Standup Comedian? "The Crown Witness Is a Stand-Up Comedian?" is a one-person show drawing from Jeff Gobeil’s real experience as a Crown witness in a historic child sexual abuse case. The show moves between courtroom testimony, therapy sessions, comedy stages, and fragmented childhood memories. It begins with Jeff at the start of the trial, feeling lost and out of place in a courtroom, before taking us back to the beginning of his healing journey years earlier in therapy. From there, the story follows Jeff as he tries to make sense of growing up as a Native kid in a private Catholic school, his unexpected decision to become a stand-up comedian, and his evolving understanding of what it means to live as a survivor of child sexual abuse before returning back to court to face his abuser. About the Performer Jeff Gobeil is a Winnipeg-based Indigenous stand-up comedian, writer, and storyteller. Since beginning stand-up, Jeff has performed at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival 2025, and 2026, the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival, as well as the Must Be Nice Indigenous Comedy Festival. In 2026, he wrote and performed his one-person Fringe show, The Crown Witness Is a Stand-Up Comedian?, blending stand-up and storytelling. The story explores trauma, recovery, and what happens when someone comes forward to report childhood abuse. Explore more events in Criminal Justice department.
