Robot Landings and Exploring the Solar System

Join us for the seventh Astronomy on Tap (AoT) event in Zurich; this time's theme - Robots in space exploration! Robot Landings and Exploring the Solar System Astronomy on Tap (AoT) is a global sensation, bringing astronomy enthusiasts and casual stargazers together in local pubs to explore the wonders of the universe. We introduce you to like-minded enthusiasts, and give you a chance to ask your burning questions directly to the experts!! Participate in our pub quiz to win exciting prizes (including meteorites!), and look at fun scientific demonstrations. This event, we follow robotic explorers from the sky to the surface! Our first talk, “Getting There: EDL in Planetary Exploration,” dives into Entry, Descent and Landing: the nail-biting moments when a spacecraft plunges through an atmosphere at thousands of kilometres per hour, battles extreme heat, and has to slow to a gentle touchdown entirely on its own. Our second talk, “Being There: Operating Robots on the Lunar Surface,” picks up where the landing leaves off, revealing what it takes to keep a robot alive and working on the Moon, from harsh temperatures and clingy lunar dust to steering a machine 384,000 km away. Come and quench your intellectual thirst - and perhaps discover new worlds over a beer at The Alehouse!!
