Alex Katz + Günter Fruhtrunk, even colors depend on each other

For the first time, the gallery presents works by Alex Katz, bringing them into dialogue with those of Günter Fruhtrunk in the exhibition even colors depend on each other. Color forms the starting point for this encounter, which brings together approximately 20 works on paper by each artist, alongside selected works on canvas. For Günter Fruhtrunk, color is inseparably linked to rhythm, structure, and movement. His precisely arranged compositions of parallel and diagonal bands of color create a visual dynamism in which colors interact, contrast, and influence one another. Color also plays a central role in the work of Alex Katz. His radically reduced portraits, landscapes, and floral compositions are characterized by bold, clearly defined areas of color. Through their interplay, they create an immediate sense of presence, atmosphere, and spatial depth. Through their distinct visual languages, Katz and Fruhtrunk approach color as an active force rather than a decorative element. Moving between abstraction and figuration, the exhibition explores how color derives its intensity from the interplay of relationships, contrasts, and the spaces in between.
