Beginner Sewing: Make a bag!

Learn to make two versatile bag styles: a classic tote and a handy drawstring bag. These projects will teach you the basics of cutting, sewing straight seams, and finishing edges—perfect for beginners. And then it’s time to put your new skills to use! Bring a couple of your favorite items in need of repair and we’ll see where a few stitches can get them back in working order. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you know it is in working order and can change the bobbin and do a straight stitch. If you need help getting acquainted with a new or vintage machine, contact us for a 1:1 session. If you want to use your own fabric, make sure it has gone through at least one wash cycle. The best fabrics for beginners are natural woven materials, such as cotton or linen.
