The SNF Rendez-vous de l'Institut : The Fellow's Series: Verena Paravel Proof of registration, via a QR code on your phone or on paper, will be required to enter Reid Hall. Entry will be refused to those who are not registered. Please note that access will not be permitted 15 minutes after the start of the event. This event will be held in English. To be notified of upcoming Institute for Ideas and Imagination events, we invite you to sign up for our monthly newsletter. Verena Paravel will present Cosmofonia, a film-in-progress, and the research that underpins it: exploring how cinema might move from point of view to “point d’ouïe” (point of hearing), from looking to listening as the primary mode of encountering the world. Verena Paravel is a French filmmaker, artist, and anthropologist, who blends cinematic experimentation with ethnographic, ecological, and philosophical inquiry. Her films have been shown at international festivals including Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, Toronto, and the New York Film Festival. Works such as Foreign Parts (2010, with J.P. Sniadecki), Leviathan (2012), Caniba (2017), Somniloquies (2018), and De Humani Corporis Fabrica (2022, with Lucien Castaing-Taylor) have received widespread critical acclaim and have been honored with numerous international awards. This event will take place in Reid Hall’s Grande Salle Ginsberg-LeClerc, built in 1912 and extensively renovated in 2023 thanks to the generous support of Judith Ginsberg and Paul LeClerc. The Rendez-Vous de l’Institut Series is generously supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. This event will be recorded and may be broadcast as part of our SNF Rendez-vous de l’Institut podcast series. By participating and asking questions, you consent to the use of your voice in this context.
