Fiddling with History The Ballroom Session

Emma‑Marie Kabanova presents Fiddling with History: from palaces to taverns, where folk and classical share the same roots. The Ballroom Sessions — 21 November Emma‑Marie Kabanova: Fiddling with HistoryViolinist Emma‑Marie Kabanova joins us for Fiddling with History — a journey from palaces to taverns, celebrating the music that brought people together three hundred years ago.Long before folk and classical music were seen as separate worlds, composers borrowed tunes, rhythms and dance styles from the music they heard around them. This programme brings together traditional melodies by Niel Gow, John Moorland and Turlough O’Carolan with works by Bach, Tartini and J.F. Rebel, revealing the shared roots of these musical traditions. Alongside them are Emma‑Marie’s own compositions, inspired by the same timeless spirit of storytelling, dance and melody that continues to connect us today.
