Full description from organizer

A Greenpeace event: Can healthy seas and a thriving local economy go hand in hand? Films, expert talks + Q&A on our South Coast future This event forms part of Greenpeace’s Protect Our Oceans campaign ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ What if bringing our seas back to life could be good for wildlife, local communities AND the economy? Purbeck sits at the heart of an extraordinary coastline. Our seas support wildlife, tourism, recreation, livelihoods and the character of the place we call home. So can restoring nature beneath the waves also help create a healthier, more resilient and thriving coast above them? Join Dorset Greenpeace speaker and Planet Purbeck Chair Doug Skinner, alongside experts from The Wildlife Trusts and Bournemouth University, for an evening of films, expert talks, discussion and audience Q&A. 🗓 Fri 18 Sept 🚪 Doors open 6pm 🎤 Main talks from 7pm 📍 Emmanuel Baptist Church, Swanage, BH19 1AZ 🎟 Pay-what-you-can | Suggested contribution £9 💙 All welcome 🌊 Come early and explore From 6pm, browse display stands from organisations working around our coast, seas and environment, meet some of the people involved and find out more about what’s happening locally. ☕ Tea, coffee and homemade cakes will also be available on a donation basis, with proceeds supporting the fundraiser. 🌊 Healthy seas + a thriving local economy? Professor Rick Stafford, Bournemouth University, tackles a question with huge relevance for coastal communities: “Ocean recovery and the local economy: can there be a win-win?” Can thriving marine habitats go hand-in-hand with tourism, fisheries, recreation and local livelihoods? Rick’s talk will be followed by an audience Q&A, so bring your questions and views. 🐚 Connecting recovery across the South Coast Hear from the South Coast Marine Recovery Project, an ambitious initiative connecting The Wildlife Trusts marine recovery work across Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Sussex. From seagrass and kelp forests to oyster reefs, fish, seabirds and marine mammals, discover what is being done to help our seas recover and how coastal communities can be part of that change. 🎬 Also on the evening Short Greenpeace films taking us from the Arctic to Antarctica, plus an update from Planet Purbeck on practical action happening here at home. 💬 There will be plenty of opportunity to question the speakers, share views and make connections. This isn't only a conversation for conservationists. It’s about wildlife. Tourism. Fisheries. Recreation. Local livelihoods. Our communities. And the future of the coast we all share. 💙 Pay what you can. Everyone welcome. Our suggested contribution is £9, but cost shouldn’t be a barrier to coming along. Choose the pay-what-you-can option if that works better for you. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 💚 Proceeds from tickets and refreshments will support Greenpeace UK’s campaigning and Planet Purbeck’s hands-on local projects, protecting nature, boosting wellbeing and strengthening our coastal community. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 🚗 Parking at Emmanuel Baptist Church is limited, so please walk, cycle, hop on the bus or car-share where possible.
