Evidence, Experience and Multimodal Management of Canine Osteoarthritis The management of canine osteoarthritis has evolved well beyond anti-inflammatory medication alone. Veterinarians now have access to a wide range of treatment options, including pharmaceuticals, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, laser therapy, shockwave therapy, acupuncture, nutraceuticals, and intra-articular treatments. At SCVS, we are fortunate to offer most of these modalities and have gained valuable experience through our dedicated osteoarthritis and pain management clinics. This discussion-based CPD session will combine a review of the current evidence with practical insights gained from managing osteoarthritis patients in clinical practice. Rather than presenting a prescriptive treatment algorithm, the session will encourage open discussion around what works, what remains uncertain, and what can realistically be implemented in first-opinion practice. Participants will be invited to share their own experiences, challenges, and approaches to multimodal osteoarthritis management. Learning Objectives: • Review current evidence for multimodal management of canine osteoarthritis. • Discuss the practical application of a range of conservative treatment options. • Explore lessons learned from SCVS dedicated osteoarthritis and pain management clinics. • Consider what can realistically be implemented in first-opinion practice. • Share experiences and discuss challenging cases in an open and collaborative environment.
