Full description from organizer

A little music. A little homecoming. A moment to pause. CHILEAN CHILL A Winter Warmer with Maria Adriana ONE-OFF EXCLUSIVE EVENING A little music. A little homecoming. A moment to pause. There is something about music from another land that can stir something deep within us. A longing for home. For somewhere we belong. For something we can't quite put into words. The Welsh have a beautiful word for it: hiraeth. A deep longing for home, for something lost or distant, perhaps something we can never quite return to. And perhaps, even when we're surrounded by familiar places and people, that longing runs deeper still. Perhaps it's a longing to come home to ourselves. Meet the music of Chile and South America Maria Adriana is from Chile, as is her family. She came to England as a displaced child and has grown up here. Yet throughout her life, she has rarely heard the beautiful music of her homeland represented in the musical landscape around her. This is something she feels passionately about changing. Through her music and storytelling, Maria brings the richness of Chilean and South American folk music to Western audiences. Music that deserves to be heard, experienced and enjoyed. The songs are performed in Spanish. If you speak Spanish, you'll enjoy the words and their stories. If you don't, that's absolutely fine. Music is a universal language. You don't have to understand the words to feel the music. In fact, the unfamiliar language can take you somewhere completely different. The melodies, rhythms and emotional depth are deeply resonant and relaxing. You'll come away feeling as though you've travelled somewhere new, yet somehow wonderfully familiar. For Maria, this music is deeply personal. It has been a lifeline, an angel, a source of comfort, connection and joy. And she would love you to meet it. A moment of pause before Christmas This is a one-off, exclusive Chilean Chill gathering. Maria isn't touring or planning another performance of this kind. Before the Christmas rush really kicks off, come and give yourself an evening to slow down, listen, laugh, feel and connect. An intimate winter gathering of live music, stories, tenderness, humour and human connection. Come as you are. Let the music take you somewhere. Photo: @sharrongoodyear "María Adriana's singing was absolutely mesmerising - it was really moving. She is a brilliant performer and I don't often say this because we ran a music venue for 17 years with singers every night, but I can honestly say that only a few times did singers really connect with an audience so wonderfully. I'd say that she is one of my favourite singers that I have heard in the last 20 years!" Angi Mariani, Latest TV Brighton "From the first song I felt transported to a place in Chile. Even without understanding the words, the music spoke directly to my emotions. Her voice is stunning, and with the simple guitar, it created something powerful, heartfelt and pure. I could feel the humour and cheekiness in the storytelling, which made the whole set refreshing and alive. It was more than a performance. It felt inclusive. Some of the Chilean ladies sang along in Spanish, but even without joining in I felt part of it. Folk has a way of drawing you into the journey, making it a shared experience rather than something you just watch. The joy in the room was unmistakable as people got up to dance. The simplicity of folk is one of its greatest strengths. You do not need much more than a guitar and a good story. This felt like a celebration of that tradition and a reminder that folk is ready for a beautiful revival. The afternoon at The Better Half was beautiful, heartfelt and memorable. I left feeling uplifted and inspired, with the music still resonating in my mind. It is the kind of experience I want to return to again and again." "I saw María perform and was absolutely blown away. Her voice was stunning, her presence captivating, and the whole performance flawless. She made our night truly special. We loved every moment and can’t recommend her enough." "Your voice is very, very, very beautiful. You just turned that from a nice lunch into a really lovely lunch. It made my day, it made me feel so good. Your voice just made it a beautiful lunch. I want to bring my children to listen to you again."
