Full description from organizer

A Guide to Anti-Racist Practice for Practitioners Committed to Creating a More Inclusive and Equitable World for Communities Holistic, wellbeing and arts practitioners play a powerful role in shaping spaces for healing, expression, connection and transformation. Whether you work with clients, students, participants or communities, creating genuinely inclusive spaces requires us to recognise how racial bias, systemic racism and cultural assumptions can show up in our work, often in ways we may not immediately recognise. Unveiling the Unconscious is a comprehensive anti-racism training course designed for holistic, therapeutic, wellbeing and arts practitioners who want to develop more inclusive, culturally aware and anti-racist approaches to their practice. Through reflection, learning and practical tools, you will explore how race and racism can shape our interactions, professional spaces and the experiences of the people we work with. You will leave with greater awareness and practical strategies that can be applied within your own field, whether you work in wellbeing, movement, dance, creative arts, therapy or community practice. What you will learn • Inclusive Language & Communication: Develop greater awareness of language, including how seemingly neutral words, phrases and assumptions can unintentionally exclude, stereotype or cause harm. • Recognising Unconscious Bias: Explore unconscious bias and how it can influence our perceptions, decisions and interactions with people from different racial and cultural backgrounds. • Developing Cultural Awareness: Build confidence in navigating cultural differences without stereotyping, and consider how to create environments that respect people's identities, heritage and lived experiences. • Understanding Racism & Wellbeing: Explore the relationship between racism, inequality and wellbeing, including how racial disparities can affect people's experiences of health, healing, creative and therapeutic spaces. • Building Anti-Racist & Inclusive Practice: Develop practical ways to embed anti-racist principles into your work, from the language and imagery you use to the environments you create and the ways you engage with clients, students, participants and communities. Who is this course for? This training is for people working across holistic health, wellbeing, therapy, movement, arts and creative practice, including: • Massage therapists and bodyworkers • Yoga and Pilates instructors • Dance teachers, dancers and movement practitioners • Fitness and movement professionals • Arts and creative practitioners • Theatre and performance practitioners • Community arts facilitators • Creative and expressive therapists • Counsellors and therapists • Acupuncturists • Reiki and energy practitioners • Herbalists • Nutrition and wellbeing practitioners • Mindfulness and meditation teachers • Coaches and facilitators You do not need to be an expert in anti-racism to take part. What matters is a willingness to reflect, learn and consider how your own practice can contribute to more equitable experiences for the people and communities you work with. Spaces are intentionally limited to support meaningful discussion, reflection and a safer learning environment. Join us in developing practices and creative spaces where people across racial and cultural backgrounds can feel seen, respected, valued and able to participate fully. What previous attendee's have said: "Through these workshops, we learnt more about active advocacy, continuous learning, supporting minoritsed communities and confronting racism. This work will help us to ensure that we're continuously working in a way that's inclusive, considered and caring, whilst also acknowledging, questioning and challenging the systems of oppression and discrimination that we live in" "This training was dense with so much information delivered with compassion and emapthy! The discussions were so warm and open - it was really beneficial and I would definately recommend" Access: The Hideout is located on the ground floor and has an accessible toilet. For those travelling by car: • Hereford Street Car Park offers free parking from 5pm Monday to Friday and throughout the weekend. • Little Paradise Car Park (BS3 4NJ) is also located nearby. We want you to be as comfortable as possible!
