An immersive 16hr/4-week hat-making course curated and taught by acclaimed milliner Virna Pasquinelli ( member of The British Hat Guild, QEST scholar and millinery teacher at The King's Foundation), where you will learn and apply a range of intricate crafting techniques to create your own unique headpiece. This course is perfect for aspiring milliners and seasoned crafters wanting to realise the fantastic sculptural potential of sinamy creating and finessing percher hats suitable for weddings, race days and formal events. Students will explore professional techniques used to shape, construct and finish lightweight headpieces while developing confidence in working with traditional millinery materials. You’ll learn a variety of essential techniques, including: • Blocking: Shape sinamay over traditional wooden blocks • Sinamay Construction: Learn how to wire, stiffen and assemble professional-quality headpieces. • Introduction to Flower Making: Create handmade flowers to embellish your design. • Introduction to Feather Manipulation: Shape and curl feathers to produce elegant trims. • Veiling: Learn how to attach and style veiling for a refined finish. • Finishing Techniques: Attach combs, elastic or create a wired headband headbands and achieve clean professional finishes. Each week will feature a new demonstration on specialised techniques, offering you the chance to build on your skills progressively. To maximise your time in class, students are encouraged to complete some hand-stitching at home, allowing for more focused instruction and experimentation during each session.
