Stories of Fort Dunree and Beyond: Talk 4

An evening talk with Brian O'Reilly and John McCarron sharing fascinating stories and insights into the history of Inishowen and Beyond. For the final night of our 40th anniversary celebrations, we are delighted to welcome Brian O'Reilly and John McCarron for an evening of fascinating military and local history. Brian will share stories from his distinguished Army career, his connection with Fort Dunree, and his remarkable experience of being present at the funeral of President John F. Kennedy. He will also explore JFK’s lasting impact on Ireland and the enduring connection between the Kennedy family and the Irish people. John McCarron will give a talk on the excellent drawings and paintings of Captain Sir William Smith, a talented architect and artist who worked for the Board of Ordnance. Smith was responsible for reviewing and improving the defences of Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle against the threat of a possible French invasion, producing many exceptional illustrations of the area and its fortifications.
