Creative Fieldwork in the River Park - Art Workshop with Katie Fowlie

Discover the hidden magic where botany meets photography in this hands-on, experimental workshop with the River Park’s Artist in Residence. Join the River Park’s Artist in Residence and explore how an artist researches and responds to a place. You’ll observe, you’ll experiment, you’ll gather from your local heritage and materials foraged from the park and shall have the opportunity to contribute to a site-specific project developing throughout the residency. Discover the hidden magic where botany meets photography in this hands-on, experimental workshop with the River Park’s Artist in Residence. Working outdoors with foraged plants and river water from the River Leven, participants will learn how to create Phytograms - a sun-powered photographic process where living plant chemistry interacts with light-sensitive photographic paper. As light interacts with plant structures and living chemistry, botanical forms, textures and hidden pigments emerge as colour-shifting images. This workshop forms part of the artist’s ongoing research into the River Leven and its surrounding area. The emphasis is on process, experimentation, curiosity and discovery. Through exploring creative processes using materials gathered from the River Park, participants will contribute observations, images and ideas to the artist’s ongoing research and the living archive of the area. No previous experience is needed - just curiosity, careful observation and an openness to seeing what emerges. As part of this shared process, some phytograms may be retained for the research archive rather than taken home. Further opportunities to contribute to the project will take place throughout the residency, which continues until December. Please come prepared for the weather and in suitable, warm clothing!
