Field Notes from the River Park - Art Workshop with Katie Fowlie

Join the River Park’s Artist in Residence and explore how an artist researches and responds to a place. You’ll observe, you’ll experiment, you’ll gather from your local heritage and materials foraged from the park and shall have the opportunity to contribute to a site-specific project developing throughout the residency. Together, we’ll explore the river’s ecology, stories and histories while helping to build a living archive shaped by us the people and materials of the River Park. Explore the River Park through colour, texture, plant materials and observation. In this open-ended indoor workshop, we’ll work with gathered or supplied natural materials to make botanical inks, prints, rubbings and small material studies. Using simple “apertures” - circles or windows cut from paper and leaves - we’ll focus closely on details that might otherwise go unnoticed. Participants will contribute colours, textures, samples, observations, memories and local words to a growing living archive of the River Park. This is an opportunity to experiment, follow the materials and help shape the artist’s ongoing research into the place. No previous experience is needed - just curiosity, careful observation and an openness to seeing what emerges. Further opportunities to get involved will take place over the coming weeks, with the residency continuing until December.
