Hollow Bones is an epic story about the lies we tell ourselves as we shape the narratives of our lives, the plans we make to protect ourselves during the worst moments, and the ties that bind mothers and daughters. On 11 September 2001, two-month-old Molly Fitzgerald’s mother went to an appointment at the World Trade Center and never came home. Although Molly was raised with love by her father and stepmother, she grew up with a deep fear of disaster. Now an adult, she runs the Rhode Island Department of Emergency Preparedness, planning how to save lives during storms, epidemics and plane crashes. She has found comfort with her new husband, Jesse, a police polygraph expert with his own history of crisis. But when the unexpected upends their marriage, they begin to question everything they thought they knew.
