Full description from organizerShow less
Café Cultura- Sarau is a series of cultural gatherings bringing people together through Latin American music, literature, storytelling and creative writing, art and film, lovely coffee and food, and lots of conversations. Café Cultura- Sarau takes inspiration from the tradition of the tertulia/tertulia/sarau: an informal gathering where people come together to talk, listen, share ideas, and music, poetry, spoken word and stories, and spend time with one another. Rather than understanding the tertulia as an intellectual or literary salon, we reclaim it as an open, collective space where different forms of knowledge and cultural expression can meet. Join us on the 28th of November for our first gathering at La Bodega! Lineup: Juana Adcock: Award-winning Mexican poet, translator and editor with an interest in indigenous-language poetry from Latin America. Ori Setz: singer-songwriter and guitarist from Ecuador based in Scotland since 2022. Cristiano Mere: Glasgow-based researcher, writer, artist, movement artist, and art technician, originally from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Herbert Cea: poet from El Salvador currently living in Glasgow. His published works include El Libro de las Plegarias (2014), and El Adiós de los Barcos (2019). Natalia Equihua: poet and textile artist whose work explores topics related to migration, family history, heritage and belonging and their connection to our natural and lived environment. Café Cultura is part of the ongoing collective effort to develop a Latin American Cultural Arts Centre in Glasgow.
