In 90 minutes you'll learn Su embroidery — a rare, ancient art of silk shading — and start your own double-sided silk bookmark, guided by the Royal Chou studio: stem, leaf and petal in class, then you finish it at home with your kit and our step-by-step sheet. The robin is Britain's Christmas bird: Victorian postmen wore red coats and were nicknamed 'robins', which is how the bird found its way onto the first Christmas cards. Stitch one as a Christmas present, or keep it for your own winter reading. What makes it different Most embroidery has a front and a back. Double-sided Su embroidery has neither — worked on sheer silk with every thread end hidden inside the stitch, so the piece reads perfectly from both faces. It is a technique still seldom taught in the UK.
