Full description from organizerShow less
Discover the inspiring story of how a life-changing concussion led to an unexpected creative journey. Exhibition Following a head injury in January 2026, Angela Lloyd experienced a severe concussion that lasted for ten weeks. As an Ecology lecturer and researcher, Angela was accustomed to spending her days reading and writing academic papers, preparing lessons, and immersing herself in books and research. Suddenly finding herself unable to carry out these activities was both isolating and frightening. Determined to find a way forward, Angela began composing haiku poems in her head during daily walks with her dog. Armed with a small notebook, she started capturing these thoughts on paper. As the weeks passed, the poems grew in number, and Angela gradually felt her mind recovering alongside her creativity. Since then, Angela has written more than 100 haiku poems. This special exhibition showcases 53 of them, marking her 53rd birthday in November and celebrating a remarkable journey of resilience, recovery, and hope. Angela feels incredibly fortunate to have made a full recovery and is keen to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people living with concussion and acquired brain injuries. Exhibition Talk To accompany the exhibition, Angela will present a special talk on: Saturday 21 November 2026 10:30am Leominster Library Angela will share her personal journey into writing healing haikus and reflect on how poetry became an important part of her recovery process. She will be joined by Dr Steve Heptinstall of Herefordshire Headway, who will provide insight into concussion, its effects, and why creative activities such as haiku writing may support recovery and wellbeing.
