Love your Countryside Walk in the Ewyas Harold Area

Join our 5.5-mile circular guided walk: South West Herefordshire common land, grazing ponies, wild flora, wide views. Love Your Countryside. CPRE Herefordshire’s Love Your Countryside walk A circular walk guided by Trustee Paul Lodge, starting in Ewyas Harold and taking under three hours over gentle terrain. Starting Point: Starting at Ewyas Harold’s Memorial Hall car park on Sunday 20 September 2026 at 10.00am. Walkers cross Ewyas Harold Common, where grazing ponies and wild flora thrive on common land that, nationally, covers 1.3 million acres, 88% of it wildlife, landscape or archaeologically designated. The route follows the River Dore towards Dore Abbey, founded in 1147 and one of Herefordshire’s most significant medieval survivals. Along the way, walkers enjoy wide views across South West Herefordshire and the Welsh border country, including Offa’s Dyke Path, the Cat’s Back and the summit of the Skirrid. The final leg returns via the Dulas Brook Valley back to the starting point. Requirements: The walk requires a moderate level of fitness; terrain includes grassy footpaths, common land, quiet tracks and some muddy or uneven sections with brook stepping stones, though there are no steep climbs. Wheelchairs, pushchairs and dogs cannot be accommodated. Group size is limited to 25 people. Recommended equipment: Sturdy boots, rucksack, water, snacks, waterproof clothing (in the event of inclement weather). Love Your Countryside: This event forms part of CPRE’s Love Your Countryside month, marking the charity’s centenary in September 2026.
