You cook at shared tables alongside the person who lives and breathes the cuisine, then everyone sits down together to eat. Drinks flow. Music plays. The table talks. On Saturday 10th October, we hand the pass to Riya Patel. On the menu, a true Indian feast. The kind you'd only usually get invited round to aunty's house for. About Riya Born into a British Indian family, Riya grew up on cooking that pulled from everywhere her relatives have lived. Obsessed with paneer, she started hosting supper clubs built around her own homemade dishes. Seeing others love them as much as she does, she went on to found All The Aunties, the brand on a mission to get good, fresh paneer into people's everyday cooking. She's now about to launch her own cookbook, sharing the family recipes that started it all. Tonight, you cook with her. The night You enter the kitchen to the sounds of old school Bollywood. With a stiff cardamom spiced negroni (or non-alcoholic version) in hand, Riya talks you through tonight's menu. You get acquainted with the spices you'll be using, and the paneer that started it all. Aprons on, you split into groups to get ahead on dessert, a silky cardamom chocolate mousse, before it goes into the fridge to set. With dessert prepped, it’s time to get going with starters. A classic chilli paneer, naturally, made together and put out on the table for everyone to pick at as you keep cooking. Riya talks about the aunties and grandmothers the business is named for, and what home has tasted like across the places her family has lived. Then it's onto mains, paneer pasanda and green bean poriyal, cooked alongside Riya. The naan is warmed and the rice gets fluffed before you all sit down to eat. You help yourself to drinks at the honesty bar, before digging into the spread you've just been a part of making. As you finish your last mouthful of mains, the mousse you made earlier comes back out, set and ready for its garnishes of flaky salt, rose petals and pistachio butter. Conversation continues, more stories are shared, and when the night finally comes to a close, you leave the same way you would any aunty's: well fed and reluctant to leave.
