Benefiting from an array of complex soils, plentiful old vines, magnificent altitudes and a famously harsh climate, the wines from this extraordinary region are an honest reflection of a unique terroir. • Ribera del Duero’s red wines are some of the purest expressions of Tempranillo, Spain’s best-known grape. The region is remarkably diverse, offering everything from big, bold, textured wines to elegant, refined, lighter-bodied styles from cooler sites. This is your chance to taste the best of what Ribera del Duero has to offer. What makes Ribera del Duero wines so special? The region of Ribera del Duero benefits from 4 key influences: • High Altitude - most are over 800m high which are among the highest in Europe • Old Vines - 28% over 30 years old, and some vines exceeding 100 years of age • Climate - a unique and harsh continental climate with a short growing season • People - a philosophy that prioritises quality over quantity to produce wines with soul and emotion. What are Ribera del Duero wines like? • Red Wines: Primarily made using Tempranillo (called Tinto Fino or Tinta del País in the region) with permitted blends of other grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Although there is great diversity in the region, wines are often full-bodied, deeply colored, and concentrated reds, with a characteristic profile of black fruit (like blackberry and plum), spice, and tobacco, supported by firm tannins and high acidity. They often feature oak aging, which adds complex notes of vanilla and leather, and are known for their power, structure, and ageing potential. • White Wines: primarily from the local Albillo Mayor grape, they are generally fresh, complex, and aromatic, showing notes of pear, green apple, and subtle floral and mineral undertones. They can be young and fruity or age in oak to develop richer, more sophisticated character with hints of spice and vanilla. The region's high altitude contributes to the wines' balance and complexity, making them a distinctive and high-quality offering despite being produced in small quantities compared to the region's famous reds. • Rosé Wines: Ribera del Duero rosés are typically fresh, aromatic, and full-bodied wines with a vivid pink color, dominated by flavours of red fruits like strawberry and raspberry, often with mineral or floral notes. Made primarily from the Tempranillo grape, these wines offer a balance of fruitiness, acidity, and texture, making them versatile companions for a range of dishes.
