Full description from organizerShow less
Multi-screen expanded cinema by Yola Kudela, with her music videos for Julia Kent, Poppy Ackroyd, Katie Gately & Darren Leigh Purkiss. Step inside a world of moving images and sound. Seven projectors wrap the gallery in a continuous ring of poetic, surreal and thought-provoking films about identity, resistance, human behaviour and our place in the world. Between the films, poems unfold across the walls, short written passages that hold the space and carry the thread from one story to the next. Blending experimental filmmaking, animation, collage and contemporary sound, the work moves through tension, transformation, loss and renewal, with image and music as one continuous experience. About the music Several of the films were made as official music videos for Julia Kent, Poppy Ackroyd, Katie Gately and Darren Leigh Purkiss, and their music forms the soundtrack of the installation. This is a screening-based installation, not a live performance. About the artist Yola Kudela is a Polish-British artist and filmmaker based between London, Paris and Warsaw. Her practice moves between street art, mixed-media installation, expanded cinema and film. Before turning fully to her own work, she spent years in visual effects at studios including DNEG, MPC and The Mill, working on films such as Harry Potter, Narnia and Fust & Furios. Her award-winning short films and music videos have screened at festivals worldwide, and her artwork has been exhibited and auctioned internationally. https://yolakudela.com
