Eye’s Type Tuesday heads north for an early evening event at the David Crow Lecture Theatre, Lowry Building, Manchester School of Art , Manchester Met. The line-up comprises Marianne Ashton-Booth, Yas Banks, Stanley Chow, Katy Cowan, Malcolm Garrett, Jessica Lee, Craig Oldham and James Wrigley. Note: the panel can’t talk about their own logos! Introducing our speakers (in alphabetical order) Marianne Ashton-Booth is head of product design at ITVX, leading product design across growth, e-commerce and design systems. She has worked with organisations including CNN, Hearst, Condé Nast and Esterson Associates. She is also a speaker, lecturer and design leadership coach. instagram.com/marianne.ashtonbooth Yas Banks is a brand, content and community designer based in Manchester, who works with charities, cultural organisations, and values-led clients on brand identity, content design and communications strategy. Yasbanks.co.uk Stanley Chow is a Manchester-born illustrator (sometimes artist, sometimes designer, sometimes DJ). His clients over the past 30 years have included Manchester United, Netflix, McDonald’s, Vodafone, Adidas and more, but he is best known for his portraits for the New Yorker magazine. stanleychow.co.uk Katy Cowan is the founder and editor of Creative Boom , the independent UK magazine for the creative industries she launched in 2009. She has worked with brands including Meta, Microsoft and Canva, hosts The Creative Boom Podcast and mentors creatives one to one. Malcolm Garrett (see Eye 12 and more ) is one of the UK’s leading authorities on design and branding in music, with a career spanning five decades from punk to digital download. At art school in Manchester in 1977 he founded the graphic design collective Assorted Images, and later in 1994 the pioneering digital agency, AMX, one of the first in London’s Shoreditch. malcolmgarrett.com Jessica Lee is a Manchester based illustrator who makes work based on her personal interests and experiences. Office Of Craig, his eponymous design practice, is based in Manchester. He is also a lecturer in Graphic Design at Manchester School of Arts. instagram.com/j__wrigley Type Tuesday is Eye ’s regular bash for everyone interested in graphic design, typography, type design, photography, illustration and visual culture, an event we have been hosting for more than a decade in London (and occasionally further afield). Doors open 5.30pm. There will be a pop-up shop selling the latest issue, Eye 110, plus bargain back issues. Type Tuesday North is a collaboration between SEA , Manchester Met , GF Smith , Made By Team and Eye Magazine Ltd . A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
