Heaven in the Ground is an installation and immersive soundwork, which reflects the artist's diasporic connection to Wales,underscoring its importance as a compassionate and culturally rich land. It brings together their Somali, Indian and Welsh cultural heritages, merging folkloric traditions to create new ecological rituals which challenge colonial narratives of death, decay and exploitation of land. This personalised artist tour will be an hour long, and give you an insight into the artist’s practice and making process, as well as a more in depth look into the references and themes present in the work. The exhibition consists of installation, video and sculptural elements. Questions will be welcomed throughout the tour and at the end. As DARCH, our practice is rooted in ritual and the sacredness of our connections to land, ancestors, and spirit. Our creative practice begins with holding ceremonies, gathering in intentional spaces that invite the guidance of plants, the land, and our ancestors. Alongside this, we explore archives and engage in conversations, both between ourselves and with our wider community, both of which help us unearth and shape the voice of our work. These conversations are essential; they are not just dialogue but a form of research, guiding us to understand what our work wants to communicate, embody, and offer to others. Sound work, storytelling, and open exchange form the foundation of our approach, allowing us to foster a creative space that transcends the human and honours a more-than-human world.
