The Paper Girl with Caryl Lewis

We are excited to host award winning author Caryl Lewis to celebrate the release of her new book, The Paper Girl. Spend a cosy autumnal Sunday afternoon at Noisy Newt Books listening to the words of award winning author Caryl Lewis as she delves into her enchanting new book for children. Caryl’s words are brought to life with delicate papercut artwork by illustrator Kanabe Abe. There will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of the book at the event. During the session Caryl will discuss her journey as a writer, read from the book and lead the children in an origami session to create their own piece of paper art. The session is aimed at 4-8 year olds. The Paper Girl: This is the story of a girl made from paper, who is bright and kind and eager to please. When she is told she should be beautiful, she folds herself into a flower; when she is told she should be clever, she folds herself into a fox; when she is told she should be a ‘shining example to others’, she folds herself into a star. But nothing she does is ever quite enough – until she does something truly beautiful, clever and shiningly wonderful. She says, ‘No.’ So unfolds this modern fairy tale.... Tickets for this event are FREE but it is necessary to book as space is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and the adults attending will also need to book a ticket. Caryl Lewis is a multi-award-winning Welsh novelist, children's writer, playwright and screenwriter. She made history becoming the first writer to win the coveted award Llyfr y Flwyddyn and Wales Book of the Year for books in English and Welsh and has won Tir na n-Og awards for children’s writing. Admired for novels such as Martha, Jac a Sianco, Drift and Bitter Honey, Caryl is also a respected screenwriter whose credits include BBC/S4C thrillers Hinterland and Hidden.
