Gain an understanding of autism, with practical strategies to support autistic children and young people across a range of settings. Introduction to Autism Participants will: • Develop an understanding of autistic experiences and perspectives. • Explore the biological and genetic influences associated with autism. • Understand common characteristics of autism and how these may influence communication, social interaction, thinking and sensory processing. • Recognise different communication styles and behaviours, and develop practical strategies to support autistic individuals effectively. • Understand focused interests, behaviours that communicate unmet needs, and sensory differences, with strategies to provide supportive, person-centred responses.
