PATHOS Curated by Anna Isopo and Martina Scavone 17 - 25 October 2024 Opening on Saturday 17 October at 5:00 pm From 17 to 25 October 2026, Palazzo Velli Expo in Rome will host “PATHOS”, the new international contemporary art exhibition curated by Anna Isopo and Martina Scavone, as part of the XI edition of Rome Art Week. PATHOS arises from the encounter of diverse artistic languages, generations, and sensibilities, brought together by a shared reflection on the role of emotion in the artistic experience. The exhibition explores PATHOS not as a mere expression of feeling, but as a generative force capable of shaping inner intensity into image, matter, and gesture. In ancient Greek culture, pathos symbolized the deepest and most irrational dimension of the human being, one that eludes the control of reason and, precisely for this reason, holds a powerful creative potential. Even today, the term evokes an emotional tension capable of engaging the viewer, arousing participation, empathy, and emotional resonance. In art, however, pathos is not merely depicted; it becomes a "presence" that permeates the work, settles into its materiality, and leaves visible traces of lived experience. The works on display bear witness to different ways of interpreting this "presence." Painting, sculpture, and photography enter into dialogue, each artistic practice preserving its own identity while contributing to a shared narrative. The exhibition unfolds as a journey in which emotional experience is transformed into formal tension, memory, and transformation, revealing artistic practice as the place where the individual dimension opens onto a universal perspective.
