Celebrate Chuseok, Korea’s Thanksgiving, with Bibim Club! Come together at AGIT for a cosy Jeon-Making Social, where we’ll make Kore Bibim Club: Chuseok Social – Korean Thanksgiving Night 🌕🇰🇷Celebrate Chuseok with us through Korean food, culture, games and makgeolli. Have you ever heard of Chuseok (추석)? Often described as Korean Thanksgiving, Chuseok is one of the biggest and most meaningful traditional holidays in Korea. Traditionally celebrated around the time of the full harvest moon, Chuseok is a time when families come together to celebrate the harvest, share food and give thanks for the year’s abundance. And, of course, food is a huge part of it. 🌾🌕 This Chuseok, Bibim Club is bringing a little piece of Korea to Newcastle. Rather than simply telling you about Korean culture, we want you to experience it together — meeting new people, playing games, cooking Korean food and sitting around the table to share what we’ve made. 🥢 What are we making? We’ll be making Jeon (전) — Korean savoury pancakes that are often shared during family gatherings and special occasions, including Chuseok. We’ll start with the basic ingredients for making jeon, then make different varieties together using vegetables and meat. You’ll be split into teams to prepare, cook and share your jeon — Korean-style, around the table together. What we’ll make 🥬 Vegetable Jeon — colourful vegetables lightly coated in batter and pan-fried until golden. 🥩 Meat Jeon — a savoury meat-based jeon, prepared and pan-fried together. No cooking experience is needed. We’ll provide the ingredients and guide you through the process — the focus is on cooking, sharing and having fun together. And once everything is ready, we’ll sit down to enjoy our freshly made jeon with Makgeolli (막걸리), a traditional Korean rice-based alcoholic drink. 🍶🌕 🍶 Jeon & Makgeolli And there’s one combination Koreans especially love: Jeon + Makgeolli! Makgeolli (막걸리) is a traditional Korean rice-based alcoholic drink with a lightly sweet, tangy and creamy flavour. Once we've finished cooking, we'll sit down together to enjoy our freshly made jeon with makgeolli — sharing food, conversations and a little taste of Chuseok in Korea. 🌕 The Evening 18:00–18:10 | Welcome & Introduction Come in, get comfortable and meet everyone. We’ll briefly introduce Bibim Club and the story and traditions behind Chuseok. 18:10–18:30 | Team Game Time to get to know each other! We’ll play a social game and split into teams for the evening. 18:30–19:30 | Jeon Making 🥢 Each team will prepare and cook different Korean jeon together. Cook, chat, help each other and see what the other teams create. 19:30–20:00 | Jeon & Makgeolli 🍶 The best part — eating together! We’ll gather around the table, share the jeon we’ve made and enjoy it with makgeolli. 💛 More than a cooking class Bibim Club is about more than learning how to make Korean food. Food has always been a way of bringing people together in Korea, especially during celebrations like Chuseok. So this isn't a formal cooking class. It's a social experience around Korean food and culture — a chance to meet new people, cook side by side, share a table and experience a little piece of Korea together. Come by yourself or bring a friend. You don't need to know anyone, and you don't need to know anything about Korean cooking.
