Date: Thursday 8 October Time: 16:00-19:00 Location: LAB42, Amsterdam Science Park Room L3.36 As a partner of AI Week, we’re excited to launch AI at Sciencepark — a new monthly event series exploring how Artificial Intelligence is shaping our world at LAB42. Each month, we’ll bring together an exciting cross-section of speakers to explore AI from different perspectives, from cutting-edge scientific developments to its grounded societal impact. Speakers are deliberately curated to bring multi-disciplinary perspectives, and we’re not afraid to get deep and technical where needed. :) First edition: AI & the University For our debut edition, we’re looking at the ways AI is impacting the university, and higher education more broadly. What do the recent upheavals in the field of mathematics mean? What can open and sustainable AI education at scale look like? And how do we address existing skills gaps and lack of diversity? For answers and clarity, we turn to three incredible speakers: 🔹 Eric Van Dusen — UC Berkeley’s College of Computing, Data Science, and Society What would it look like to teach AI literacy the way UC Berkeley teaches data science — hands-on, interdisciplinary, and open? Eric will share his ideas for “data science education at scale” and his vision for AI education at universities. 🔹 Iffat Rose Gill — The Code to Change How can we address existing skills gaps in the ICT sector and associated digital gender divides, and how does AI change or exacerbate this picture? Iffat will give us a clear and grounded look at the real-world impact of AI, with a focus on women and underrepresented groups. 🔹 Jeroen Zuiddam — Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics, University of Amsterdam What can we learn from recent upheavals in the world of AI and mathematics, and what does it mean for the field? Jeroen brings the perspective of a mathematician and computer scientist working at the intersection of these rapidly evolving fields. This gathering is a co-creation between HAVA-Lab, Data Science Center and LAB42, bringing together researchers, educators, students, entrepreneurs, AI practitioners and everyone curious about where AI is taking us next.
