Workshop and 'walkshop' by Wiebke Stadtlander, exploring possibilities in the public environment With collective grounding exercises to make all participants familiar with each other and the space, the workshop unfolds into two parallel activities. Part of the group goes on a walkshop, where we explore together ways of noticing and acknowledging possibilities in the public environment by taking on different lenses. Meanwhile, the second group will stay indoors, where we explore possible affordances of a selected object. After the activities, we all come together and share our experiences by mapping, drawing and reflecting on the explored possibilities together. Come by, bring curiosity and a raincoat. An advocate for plurality and an enthusiast of spatial storytelling, she is curious about questions of identity, belonging, and whose knowledge and experiences are reflected in the making of our built environments. Marieke Russchen is an urban designer and researcher that is fascinated by the role of democratic systems and public space. She is working with both traditional means of spatial design and methods like 'countermapping' and looking forward to learn about new perspectives on space during the workshop. Wiebke Stadtlander is a PhD researcher in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-Information Management at the University of Twente, where she examines the built environment through an intersectional feminist lens of care. With her project she explores how spatial practices can contribute to hack the systemic oppression experienced by ‘fluidly housed youth’, young people navigating overlapping and fluctuating forms of homelessness and housing exclusion.
