Full description from organizer

Red Events and La Chapelle Sauvage present a radiant Christmas programme centred on Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols. Red Events and La Chapelle Sauvage present a radiant Christmas programme centred on Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols. Conducted by Karel De Wilde, the performance will take place at the Zuiderkerk in the heart of Amsterdam, the city’s historic first Protestant church and a grand, atmospheric setting for choral music. Written in 1942 during Britten’s sea voyage from the United States to England and premiered the following year, this celebrated cycle of 12 short movements for voices and harp combines medieval English and Latin texts with music of remarkable clarity, delicacy and brilliance. By turns mystical, playful and radiant, A Ceremony of Carols has become one of the most beloved choral works of the Christmas season. Britten’s masterpiece is complemented by sacred works by John Tavener and Arvo Pärt, composers whose music explores the profound connection between spirituality, silence and sound. Their meditative compositions bring a sense of stillness and transcendence to the programme, creating a compelling dialogue between different musical traditions and generations. Additional seasonal works complete this atmospheric musical journey, inviting audiences to experience the wonder, serenity and joy of the season through some of the most luminous and moving sacred music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The concert is organised by the creative agency RED EVENTS & Distribution Ltd., known for producing exceptional cultural experiences in historic mansions, on rooftops, in greenhouses, and in some of the most atmospheric venues across Europe, the United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and beyond. Its repertoire also includes a distinctive collection of candlelit concerts and fully immersive performances combining video art and sound. ⏳ Duration: 80 minutes without interval (Doors open 30 minutes before the scheduled start time) ⚠️ Please note: If you are late for the concert, you may be offered seats in a category other than the one indicated on your ticket. It saw light by the impulse of the Belgian conductor Karel De Wilde as a teamwise and international initiative of young professional musicians coming from all over the world. What gathered them is a wild and untameable musical ambition with a contemporary, critical and reflective attitude. Karel De Wilde is a versatile artist. He studied piano, organ, harpsichord and double bass at a young age, and then organ, music theory and orchestral conducting at the Royal Conservatories of Ghent and Mons. His compositions were successfully created internationally and he performed in the presence of many prominent European personalities. It was Karel's arrangement of the Belgian National Anthem that was selected and performed in Brussels by the National Orchestra of Croatia in the presence of the European heads of government on the day of their accession to the EU.
