Celebrating Cultures Pop-Up: Teuga Tapa artmaking

Teuga tapa will use tapa su’i, the stitching/embroidery technique and the traditional rubbing technique using contemporary upeti fala/lolomi tablets called elei. The workshop will begin with a short introduction of tapa, Samoan siapo, its process including its types, decorative techniques, materials, and functionality over time. Resources such as Siapo designs, embroidery are provided for inspiration, but all participants are encouraged to su’i or elei a pattern that resonates most from learning about tapa in the workshop. The Pop-Up offers a unique opportunity to embrace our community’s rich cultural heritage through arts, culture, and connection.
