Rā Maumahara 2026 - AKE, AKE, AKE This October, AKE, AKE, AKE invites our community to remember through place, story, film and community. Join guided journeys to Rangiaowhia and Ōrākau, a public lecture with historian Vincent O’Malley, and a free film screening at the Regent Theatre Te Awamutu. AKE, AKE, AKE Heritage Bus Tour Dates: Wednesday 21, Thursday 22, and Friday 23 October Time: 9.30am – 12.30pm. Please gather at 9.15am outside the Te Whare Taonga o Te Awamutu Museum, 135 Roche St. Te Awamutu, (or on the Foyer if wet) ready for a 9.30am start. Ticket Price: free (limit of 2 tickets per order) Maximum per bus: 30 people Age: Suggested suitable for 16 years and over Advice for Attendees: dress for the elements, sunhat, sunscreen/raincoat/umbrella, bring water, wear flat comfortable shoes, some slopes, steps and uneven ground to be navigated/mild exercise needed. Two perspectives, one shared journey Heritage bus tours will be guided by Museum staff sharing a mana whenua, Māori and a Pākehā perspective. Together, they will support thoughtful, place-based learning and conversation. Rangiaowhia: history held in place Rangiaowhia is central to understanding the history of Waipā and the New Zealand Wars. During the tour, participants will encounter the landscape with guided context, reflection and respect. Ōrākau: a story with national significance The history of Ōrākau reaches far beyond Waipā. Visit the landscape as part of a guided programme that connects local place, national history and the continuing work of remembrance. 🎁 HERITAGE BUS TOUR GIVEAWAY Every person who joins an AKE, AKE, AKE heritage bus tour receives one free entry into the draw to win a signed copy of Vincent O’Malley’s Great Wars of New Zealand book.
