Fundraiser screening: Big Girls Don't Cry

• "To sit in [the theatre] surrounded by thousands of others but find yourself so completely transported to the lonely aching of adolescence is to have fallen under the spell of a master filmmaker." - The Spinoff Join Wellington Pride Festival for a fundraising screening of Big Girls Don't Cry on 29 September at the Penthouse Cinema in Brooklyn. The movie will be screened with open captions for all our Deaf, ESL and ADHD community members and we'll have stickers, zines and other fun things to make the night a little bit more special And look, we know that so often queer media can utterly wreck and destroy you, so we'll just quote the film's director Paloma Schneideman speaking to Sunday magazine here to reassure you a little bit: "We've had a lot of those [traumatic queer media] and I have much gratitude for them because we had to do it that way. I always say, the queer storytellers before us had to scream so that now we can whisper. And what an incredible privilege it is to be able to do that". Money from ticket sales goes to support Aotearoa's longest running Pride Festival, and the over 100 events happening 5-21 March 2027.
