Students of Systems Thinking (Community of Practice)

Kia ora , Namaskaram Systems thinking can sometimes sound more complicated than it needs to be. This is a space to learn it together. Students of Systems Thinking is a new in-person Community of Practice for anyone curious about building our capacity to think clearly and show up with compassion. Our first gathering explores a deceptively simple question: How might we anticipate unintended consequences? We’ve all seen well-intentioned actions create unexpected effects. An intervention solves one problem but creates another. A solution works in the short term, while consequences appear somewhere else later. Large Language Models make writing easier, but may also change how much people think. Systems thinking gives us ways to slow down, notice the relationships around a problem, and see what we might otherwise miss. I’m currently writing about this topic as part of developing a systems thinking curriculum, and I’ll share some of what I’m researching — frameworks and practices — as a starting point for our kōrero. Together, we’ll explore a framework for anticipating unintended consequences and practise noticing connections and ripple effects. This is not a lecture series. I’m not coming in with all the answers. I’m a student of systems thinking too. I’ll help guide the session and hold space for kōrero, different ways of thinking, and learning with and from one another. Please keep your RSVP up to date. There are only 10 places available.
