About this event

This workshop introduces RO-Crate for packaging research outputs with structured metadata following FAIR principles. Participants construct metadata for a simple dataset, explore integrating tools to enable reproducibility, and showcase real-world uses of RO-Crate in domains like life science and cultural heritage.

Full description from organizer

Workshop 7 : Improving FAIRability of digital objects with metadata using RO-Crate Workshop Description: RO-Crate provides a mechanism for packaging research outputs together with structured metadata following the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). This supports machine-actionability, reproducibility and allows for a range of integrations, such as with provenance and legal and organisational frameworks. RO-Crate enables the interlinking of methods, data, and outputs with the outcomes of a project or a piece of work, even where distributed across repositories. RO-Crate is an approach to creating FAIR Digital Objects that has been adopted in research infrastructures around the world, in domains spanning life science, health, earth science, materials science, language, and cultural heritage. This workshop will provide a domain-agnostic interactive introduction to RO-Crate, assuming no prior knowledge of the technology. First, you will learn how RO-Crate metadata is structured by constructing the metadata for a simple dataset. You will then explore an ecosystem of tools that integrate RO-Crate behind the scenes to enable reproducibility of computational workflows and the production of FAIR Digital Objects. Finally, we will showcase other real-world uses of RO-Crate to illustrate the many possibilities for applying it in your own projects. Objectives Our objectives are for you to understand: 1) The core concepts and structure of RO-Crate. 2) How RO-Crate can be incorporated into research infrastructure. 3) The benefits RO-Crate offers both researchers and infrastructure providers. The workshop is aimed at anybody with an interest in using metadata to enable reproducibility and reuse of digital objects, including but not limited to data stewards, individual researchers, and data architects.
