Full description from organizer

Join the Alzheimer's Association for a three part series that will move from awareness to action. Presented in Collaboration with the Alzheimer's AssociationWith winter approaching, whether you are a caregiver or not, levels of stress and isolation can increase. Join the Alzheimer's Association for a three part series that will move from awareness to action. Each session, learn everyday habits you can build today to help protect your memory and thinking as you get older- even reducing your risk of cognitive decline and dementia. Then, practice relaxation techniques and mindfulness skills, while connecting with others in your co-op community. Alzheimer's and other dementias are diseases of the brain, not an inevitable part of getting older. This opening session looks at what's happening inside the brain: how healthy nerve cells communicate, what changes as Alzheimer's takes hold, and why the disease reaches beyond memory into language, judgment, and mood. Then, learn and practice tools for relaxation through a lens of mindfulness. Facilitator bios: Megan Stacey (she/her) is the Albany County Program Manager with the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York. As a member of the care and support team, she works to connect individuals with all of the free resources the association provides, including the 24/7 helpline, care consultations, support groups, and educational programs. The Associations Goal is to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia- by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. With a strong professional and personal background in memory care, Megan's goal is to ensure that everyone across the northeast facing these diseases- not just those in Albany- know they are not alone. Barbara Kam has taught Seniors, kids, and their families holistic fitness classes since 2009. She has completed training with the Alzheimer's Association, and is Co-op Member Owner. She regularly volunteers at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center and Albany Med. Her dreams include teaching Yoga wherever it is needed and becoming a BREATH-BODY-MIND teacher. Questions?
