Chalked Up(state) Queer Climbing: Last Fridays [mask required]

Join our monthly masked meetups in Albany, NY. New climbers, all bodies, and all abilities encouraged! Masks are required at this meetup. Chalked Up(state) Queer Climbing is the NY Capital Region program of Crux Climbing, based in NYC. We have 5 monthly meetups at 4 gyms across the region. At our Last Friday meetups at Albany's Indoor Rock Gym, masks are required for our participants (and provided to those who need). Please note that the gym is open to other patrons without mask requirements. All experience levels, bodies, and abilities encouraged (pro tip: you don’t have to be “strong” to climb)! If it's your first time, don't worry - we'll help you climb your first walls, and there are routes set for all levels. If you’re new and want us to keep an eye out for you, email [email protected] and/or [email protected] Venue: Albany Indoor Rock Gym When you check in at the front desk, let them know you're here for the Chalked Up meetup, and they will connect you with our host (usually Graysen). The gym features two separate climbing areas with over 50 top rope and bouldering routes, a 45-degree climbing wall, and 1/3 mile of interconnected indoor caving routes. Each climbing route is graded using a circuit grading system, which categorizes each climb into a range of grades. Instructors are also available to provide free belay lessons and demonstrations for new climbers. Cost Much thanks to AIR for offering discounts during our monthly meetups! $10 day pass or $15 with rentals. Restrooms Single stall all-gender bathroom off the common room, which is located to the right of the gym’s entrance and over a small step. Accessibility Both climbing areas are accessible via an outside door at parking lot level. The gym is working on installing a low-grade for the step between the two rooms. There is a ~1in step onto the climbing mats from the floor. The second floor party room can be accessed via the stairs behind the 45-degree climbing wall. Some individuals in the group are adaptive climbers or have experience climbing with people with physical disabilities. However, the gym does not have adaptive equipment, such as a seated climbing rig. If you have questions about what is available and how we can best support your needs, please reach out. Climb Time Come with climbing partners or let us help you connect with others. You can boulder, top-rope, or lead climb - the choice is yours! (And if you don't know what those terms mean, we'll help you out.) Ages Under 10yo: Adults are welcome to bring kids, and you must be fully responsible for their supervision in a 1:1 ratio.
