When graduate student Ethan Ray takes a job as night auditor at an aging Appalachian mountain resort, he expects paperwork, silence, and a paycheck. Instead, strange reddish-brown lights fill the sky, silent winds whip through the trees, and mysterious owl gargoyles begin to move. At 3 a.m., every clock stops. Trapped inside with his coworkers, Kal and Teresa, Ethan discovers that the hotel isn't simply old. It's a boundary between worlds, and something ancient has finally awakened.
